ISAIAH 9

Is 9:1But gloom does not remain in the place where there was anguish: formerly He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali contemptibly, but afterward He treats the way of the sea, across the Jordan, with glory, Galilee of the nations.

Is 9:2The people who walked in the darkness / Have seen a great light; / Upon those who dwell in the land of the shadow of death / Light has shined.

Is 9:3You have multiplied the nation; / You have increased their gladness; / They are glad before You as with the gladness of harvest, / As men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

Is 9:4For You break the yoke of their burden / And the staff on their shoulder, / The rod of their oppressor, / As in the day of Midian.

Is 9:5For all the boots / Of those who in boots trample in the battle-quake / And the garments / Rolled in blood / Are for burning; / They are fuel for fire.

Is 9:6For a child is born to us, / A Son is given to us; / And the government / Is upon His shoulder; / And His name will be called / Wonderful Counselor, / Mighty God, / Eternal Father, / Prince of Peace.

Is 9:7To the increase of His government / And to His peace there is no end, / Upon the throne of David / And over His kingdom, / To establish it / And to uphold it / In justice and righteousness / From now to eternity. / The zeal of Jehovah of hosts / Will accomplish this.

Is 9:8The Lord sends out a word against Jacob, / And it descends upon Israel.

Is 9:9And all the people know it, / Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, / Saying in pride and haughtiness of heart,

Is 9:10The bricks have fallen, but we will build with cut stone; / The sycamores have been felled, but we will put cedars in their place.

Is 9:11Then Jehovah exalts the adversaries of Rezin against them / And goads their enemies on.

Is 9:12Aram from the east and the Philistines from the west: / They devour Israel with an open mouth. / By all this His anger is not turned; / His hand is still outstretched.

Is 9:13Yet the people do not turn to Him who strikes them, / Nor do they seek Jehovah of hosts.

Is 9:14Then Jehovah cuts off from Israel head and tail, / Palm branch and marsh reed in one day.

Is 9:15The elder and the highly regarded — he is the head; / The prophet and the teacher of falsehood — he is the tail.

Is 9:16And those who lead this people are those who mislead them; / And those who are led are those who are confused.

Is 9:17Because of this the Lord will not rejoice in their young men, / And He will not have compassion on their orphans and widows; / For all of them are profane and evildoers, / And every mouth speaks foolishness. / By all this His anger is not turned; / His hand is still outstretched.

Is 9:18For wickedness burns like a fire; / It devours thorn and thistle, / And burns in the forest thickets; / And they roll up into a column of smoke.

Is 9:19At the overflowing wrath of Jehovah of hosts a land is burned up, / And the people are like fuel for fire; / No one spares even his brother.

Is 9:20One carves on the right side, but is hungry; / And another eats on the left side, but is not satisfied. / Each eats the flesh of his own arm:

Is 9:21Manasseh, Ephraim, and Ephraim, Manasseh; / These together against Judah. / By all this His anger is not turned; / His hand is still outstretched.
